About
CARLOS JEAN has become one of the irreplaceable artists of the current musical scene. His capacity to understand and to conjugate the different worlds that conform music, has made of him one of the most versatile and prolific creators of this sector. Carlos Jean, is with no doubt one of the key pieces that allows us understand the past, the present and the future of music in these times of change and renovation.
He appeared in 1998, together with Najwa Nimri, to give form to one of the best albums of electronic music of the history of Spain “No Blood” (Subterfuge Records). Regarding his work as an artist, its important to point, not only the sales (around 200,000 units), but also the territorial reach of such, that allowed him to position himself not only in Europe, but in the Asian and in the American market. This point has been essential for the licenses and synchronizations of their songs. Among others, it is possible to emphasize the single “Mr Dabadá”, that has been included not only in national campaigns (El Corte Inglés) but in international ones, such as the Original Sound Track of “the Pink panther” (MGM, 2006) or the world-wide campaign of Intel (Intel processor Core Duo).
But if something has characterized Carlos career from its beginnings, has been its great versatility in order to understand and compound music, which has allowed him to make compatible the creation of its own songs, with his works as producer, Dj, composer of Original Sound tracks, music for publicity, etc.
His producer facet has been, without a doubt, one of the most successful aspects. The list of artists with whom he has worked, is huge and of an extraordinary variety (Alejandro Sanz, Miguel Bosé, Juanes, Shakira, Paulina Rubio, Bunbury, Belinda, Marta Sánchez, Fangoria, OBK, Enrique Iglesias, Wally Lopez, Nawja Nimri, Tiziano Ferro, Carliños Brown, Hombres G, Bebe, etc.)
Today it can be said that the volume of albums sold at international level is over 10 million. Some examples of great successes, are “Papito” Miguel Bosé, with more than 2 million albums sold, or Bebe´s productions, “Pafuera telarañas” and “Y.”, whose success, with approximately 1.5 million copies, reached the Latin market, in USA and Latin America.
At this point, it cannot be ignored his last contribution, in this case with a charitable and shared in common aim, related to the recent catastrophe caused by the earthquake of Haiti. Carlos Jean, Haitian son, decided to take advantage of his profession and its resources to help these people. And thus in a surprising little time, less than two months, he suceed to join the most important Latin American artists (Alejandro Sanz, Shakira, Juanes, Miguel Bosé, Bebe, Hombres G, Marta Sánchez, La Mala, Macaco… until a total of 25 artists) to create a Song and a videoclip “Ay Haiti”, that is already becoming a true musical goal with an overwhelming repercussion as much in radio and TV as in Internet, where the diffusion through the social networks and the video supports, is extending its repercussion in an exponential way.
Finally just to point out, these years of hard work, have obtained an ample social recognition through different awards and nominations. In 2002, he obtained the Ondas Award to the Best Dj and mixer. He has been nominated as well, until in 7 occasions, to the Latin Grammy (best producer, song of the year, album of the year, best arranger, etc.) and in 2009 to the 52nd Grammy awards as Best song “Me fui” (Bebe &Carlos Jean) and in other so many occasions to the Goya and the Spanish Music Awards, etc.
